Luxor Governorate is set to make a groundbreaking announcement today, Monday, revealing the discovery of the largest late-period Egyptian settlement within the Karnak Temple complex. This significant find, unearthed by a French archaeological mission, offers a fascinating glimpse into the daily lives of ancient Egyptians.

The recently discovered settlement within the Karnak Temple is essentially a city complete with ancient ovens, pottery, walls, and structures, mirroring the lost ancient Egyptian city on the West Bank. This discovery is particularly timely as the new winter tourism season is about to commence.

Additionally, the ceremony will witness the reinstallation of the gateway of Pharaoh Ramses III following the careful assembly of its fragments. Furthermore, ongoing development projects at the open-air museum adjacent to the first courtyard of the Karnak Temple will be highlighted.

The official announcement will take place today in the presence of Dr. Mohamed Ismail Khaled, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, several tourism and antiquities ministry officials, French Ambassador to Cairo Eric Chevallier, Luxor Governor Abdel-Motalleb Amarah, and a number of Karnak antiquities officials.
